Zhao Li Ying and Huang Xuan did a mini movie for an online show called “Best Performance (最美表演)“, which just wowed me. There is so much feelings contained in Huang Xuan’s pause that I was in tears without even realizing. The last time it happened to me was the piano scene between Ady An and Van Ness Wu in Autumn’s Concerto (下一站，幸福).
Other mini movies from “Best Performance”:
The Journey of Flower (花千骨) is about a girl whose blood can wither plants and attract demons. One day, a god came along, swooped her up, and took her to his place somewhere in the clouds. He taught her to fly on swords, fight demons, and get boys to fall head over heels for her (ok, maybe not the last part). She became so infatuated with him she couldn’t bear losing him to wherever-god-goes-after-death, so she committed unforgivable transgressions to save his life. Therefore, it only made sense that he sacrificed even more to protect her from retribution of her crimes. The vicious cycle continued until she became a demon god with powers to annihilate the world. By this point, there was nothing he could do to help her. So he killed her.
This is one of the worst executed fantasy drama I have ever seen. It is disappointing that a drama rich with conflicts and potential character development spins its tail on one issue (Bai Zi Hua is risking his life to protect Hua Qian Gu, therefore we need to think of another way to get rid of the girl) for 30+ episodes then tries to wrap up all the storylines in the final 3 episodes. WTF?
